On Saturday, May 2, 2015, local volunteers joined women across the United States to help build affordable housing in their communities. Over 300 participating Habitat affiliates and more than 10,000 women volunteered at Habitat for Humanity construction sites across the country in recognition of National Women Build Week, May 2-10.
Now in its eighth year, Habitat’s National Women Build program recruits, educates and inspires women to build and advocate for simple, decent and affordable houses in their communities. Lowe’s is the sponsor of Habitat’s Women Build program and has donated more than $1.75 million to Habitat affiliates across the United States.
This year, over 100 volunteers, including Lowe’s Heroes Employee Volunteers from a variety of the local stores in our area, partner families and two bank teams were on hand to help Habitat with support for the annual Women Build event. Two homes in Inverness were fitted with siding, storage sheds were caulked, primed and painted, plus the outside and inside of the homes were cleaned, making for a day of fun and accomplishment for a job well done. Habitat for Humanity of Citrus County, Inc., is grateful for all of the volunteers who took time out of their busy schedules to lend a hand at this annual event.
On Thursday, April 9, 2015, Habitat for Humanity of Citrus County, Inc., held its Eighth Annual Building Dreams Wine & Food Pairing Benefit at Skyview Restaurant located in Terra Vista, Citrus Hills. This annual event is Habitat’s largest fundraising effort to gain financial support to accomplish its mission of providing safe, decent, affordable housing for partner families in Citrus County.
In addition to gourmet food delights and fine wine sampling, the evening included door prizes, a Silent and Live Auction, conducted by Dale McClellan of M&B Farms, and Josh Wooten of the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce.
Habitat for Humanity of Citrus County, Inc., would like to thank all of the private citizens and local businesses who donated their time, money, auction items and/or door prizes which made this event a huge success!
