A Message from the Donations Coordinator of ReStore Operations – Bob Swain
My name is Bob Swain and I am the Donation Coordinator for Habitat for Humanity of Citrus County. I got involved with Habitat when I moved down to sunny Florida in 2005, after working 35 years in the Civil Engineering field for the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
I started as a Habitat volunteer, driving the truck, picking up donations and making deliveries. After a few months, Habitat asked if I wanted a job. Not looking for full time employment, I agreed to work part-time three days a week as the donation truck driver.
Back in those days, we only needed to go out three days a week to meet our pickup demands. Since that time, our donation pickup and delivery service has expanded to six days a week and we send out two trucks a few times a week or more as needed. We now have two full time drivers to meet the needs of our supporters.
In 2011, with the increase in donations, Habitat decided to open a second ReStore (thrift store) this one in Crystal River. I am back to working full time in an effort to help support the organization. I now spend most of my time in the office scheduling the pickups and assisting Wendy with the running of the two Habitat ReStores (thrift stores). Working for Habitat has become more than just a job for me. Being a part of the Habitat family makes you feel as if you’re helping to make a difference.
We feel that we offer the best pickup/delivery service in the County. If an item is purchased in our ReStore, our delivery charge is only $30 anywhere in the County, which includes delivering the item(s) and setting them up where you would like it in your home.
A little over a year ago, Wendy (Director of ReStore Operations) and I sat down to try to figure out how we could expand our services to receive more donations, and to try and create a much needed free service in the County. With our ever changing population of Citrus County, we surmised there was a need for what we call a “Total House Clean-out Service”. When loved ones pass on, decide to downsize or move closer to their families, there is usually a good deal of furniture, appliances and housewares that is either not needed or too costly to move. This is where our FREE cleanout service comes in.
We will come out and box up the loose items (dishes, linens, knickknacks, clothing, etc.), remove all the furniture that is to be donated, and create an inventory for tax/documentation purposes (forms provided). The service is FREE! We will be there on time and with the right amount of help to get the job done as promised. We can work with your Realtor so the clean-out/pickup can be completed even if you are unavailable, and we will leave your home “broom clean”. One Call Does It All! (352) 564-2300
If you would like to make a tax deductible donation of your gently used household items and need them picked up in a professional and timely manner, then Habitat for Humanity of Citrus Country is the place to call.
